Greetings Opera Cocktales Fans, Friends and Family!
Yes, my friends, the Lion(ess) of August arrives in our city bringing a feast of festivals,
marathons, block parties, concerts and ebullient gatherings of all kinds.
Tourists explore the steep narrow streets, roiling, surging winds urging them forward
to ever expanding adventures as each distinctive neighborhood beckons the curious to explore and discover.
Our fair city encompasses it all, with a windy flair for the provocative and unexpected.
Of course, here at Opera Cocktales we will begin the month with our own special brand of Lion(ess) heat,
the roar of passionate, lived experience as revealed in the operatic music we love best!
The Lion(ess) will ROAR!!This month’s Opera Cocktales includes some of our favorite Verdi and Mozart heroines
as well as some long cherished Spanish repertoire by Falla, Gimenez and Vives.
Arias from Giordano’s Andrea Chenier illuminate the misgivings and tragedies inherent in wars
while Love shines ever so briefly between Nedda and Silvio in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci!
